<p>Grain handler GrainCorp is to cut the number of off-farm receiving silo sites it operates in Australia’s three eastern states to 252, with most of its work concentrated on 77 sites that handle most of its receivals. </p> <p>The company said the sites to be closed account for only 4% of its volumes, against 70% handled at its top 100 sites. </p> <p>It said that farmers increasingly wanted to deliver to larger full service silo sites that had good rail connections, could segregate grain varieties and which were permanently manned. </p> <p>Around 25 large new competitor silo sites have been opened in the last few years, mostly operated by AWB. </p> <br />
