Almost 200 representatives from the rail industry, along with state and federal government bodies, have attended a Sydney briefing to discuss the current state of for local rail suppliers.

The session took place as the result of collaboration between industry and both Federal and State Government and provides a platform for rail industry suppliers to learn about new projects, opportunities, programs and initiatives in the Australian Rail Sector.

Before the meeting, ARA acting chief operating officer Phil Allan said the session would provide an ideal opportunity for key stakeholders in New South Wales to have a say in the future direction of the rail industry.

“This sell out session shows just how eager the industry is to work with government, through bodies like the Industry Capability Network and National Passenger Rail Alliance, to ensure the future prosperity and growth of rail manufacturing in this country.

“Both industry and government should be motivated to drive growth in the rail industry, as the economic benefits are significant. With 63% of Australians continuing to travel to work by car each day and only 4% using rail, simply utilising this mode of transport would put Australia on track to a greener, efficient and more productive future.”

ICN NPRA programme manager Stephan van der Lit said the session followed the launch of the ICN NPRA last month and project opportunities in key rail projects around Australia.

“The NPRA aims to promote rolling stock, signalling, communications, information communications technology and rail infrastructure opportunities to Australian suppliers,” he said.

This session was supported by the Department of Industry NSW.
