Good 12/13 result for Qube, but Moorebank needed

<span class="" id="parent-fieldname-description"> Logistics and transport company, Qube Holdings, has announced record earnings and strong growth across all divisions for the 2012/13 financial year – the 12 month period ending June 30 this year. </span> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quot">Statutory revenue increased by 38% to $1.08bn and profit after tax attributable to shareholders increased to $77.m, the company announced.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quot">Chis Corrigan, Qube’s chairman, says the company has achieved success by improving the quality of its facilities and equipment through investment, and expanding the breadth of its services by geography, customer, service and product.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quot">“Qube now operates from a national portfolio of strategic locations at ports and other freight catchment areas with scope to expand the capacity at these locations,” Corrigan said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quot">“The strategic assets at Minto and Moorebank will continue to generate reliable income in the short to medium term while providing Qube with outstanding long term growth potential once fully developed into intermodal logistics facilities.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quot">Qube – led publicly by managing director, Maurice James – wants to build a $1bn intermodal terminal at Moorebank, in Sydney, in partnership with rail provider, Aurizon.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quot">But he voiced his frustration in dealing with the former government to push the plan through, and hopes the new Coalition government can change that tune.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quot">“While the final shape of the Moorebank precinct in south west Sydney remains uncertain, we are confident that Qube, either through our SIMTA consortium or directly, will be a major beneficiary of the development of this important strategic project in the years ahead,” James said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quot">“Qube continues to engage with the relevant stakeholders to progress a whole of Moorebank precinct solution which Qube believes will deliver the most efficient logistics solution for Sydney and which will maximise the benefits for the Commonwealth, New South Wales and Qube.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10.0ptline-height:115%Arial&quot,&quotsans-serif&quotTimes New Roman&quot">“The development of an intermodal terminal and complementary warehousing and other logistics services in the Moorebank precinct will provide significant benefits to Qube’s activities and improve the port logistics supply chain to south west Sydney.”</span></p>
