Gold Coast rail gets $247m upgrade

<p>The Queensland Government is to spend $247m upgrading Gold Coast railway services.</p> <p>Premier Peter Beattie said the investment will reduce peak hour service gaps from 30 minutes to "as little as 15 minutes".</p> <p>The government will spend $184m to duplicate the track between Ormeau and Coomera and construct a third track between Salisbury and Kuraby.</p> <p>The remaining $63m will be spent on trains. </p> <br />

  1. At present rail’s share of containers into and out of the major east coast ports ( Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne) is 9%. Rail needs to dramatically increase its modal share in order for these cities to avoid more congestion on their roads.
