GHD responds to industry transformation

Demand for rail transport is rising, not only within cities but also connecting regional communities – driving the replacement, upgrade and expansion of many important rail connections.

In particular, the systems that enable Digital Train Control are increasingly making a significant contribution to the industry’s success.

The transition to Digital Train Control will enable more capacity on the network, whilst providing a safer, more consistent, sustainable and beneficial passenger service. And safety and passenger comfort improve with this increased level of automation.

However, the automation of rail also comes with challenges, ranging from concerns over safety standards and regulation to corridor accessibility and data management.

According to its National Rail Leader, John Cranley, GHD is working closely with clients and responding to the challenges by growing its rail team and pulling together specialist skillsets that render these tasks easier.

“With proven advice and skilled services, we help rail transport organisations maximise value from digital investments whilst remaining agnostic in the solutions we provide,” he said.

“One of our strengths as a multi-disciplinary company is our cross-industry experience, which aids understanding of the integration of technologies with legacy rail signalling and communications infrastructure. By providing application and implementation support we can identify and address risks and issues that may be barriers to success.”

To help respond to the changes underway in the rail sector, GHD is currently seeking rail specialists in many disciplines.

“It’s an exciting time to join the rail industry, with new technologies and increased customer expectations driving change. And drawing on experience from major train control programs across the world, GHD is shaping digital railway programs from concept, through to design, delivery, implementation and operations and maintenance,” Cranley said.

“We’re passionate about helping clients build tomorrow’s railway today. The benefit for our people is the exposure to landmark, community changing projects, as well as the knowledge you gain from connection to a leading global network of technical expertise.”

GHD’s rail project portfolio includes key roles on major projects such as Cross River Rail in Brisbane, Sydney Metro, Level Crossing Removal Program in Melbourne, Inland Rail, Logan Gold Coast Fast Rail and many others.
