<p>An increase in the number of Ghan trains on the Adelaide-Darwin railway has taken passenger numbers past the 100,000 mark for the service.</p> <p>For May, June and July, Ghan operator Great Southern Railway (GSR) has increased the number of weekly services from Adelaide to Darwin to two (up from one) and to Alice Springs to three (up from two).</p> <p>It means that 100,000 passengers have now travelled on the service in the 16 months since it started and GSR is expecting to carry 10,000 passengers for July 2005 alone. </p> <p>The Northern Territory Tourism Commission estimates that the Ghan is bringing $27.7m a year to the territory.</p> <br />
