Geelong passenger rail set to restart

<p>Passenger services will resume on the newly upgraded Geelong line on February 16, the Victorian transport minister Peter Batchelor said.</p> <p>Construction works on the first major stage of the regional fast rail project should be completed later today (Wednesday, February 11), Mr Batchelor said.</p> <p>The track will be left to settle for a few days, with ballast trains operating along the route to assist the process.</p> <p>When rail services resume, trains will reach speeds of 130 km&#47h and once all upgrades have been finished in 2005, will be able to operate at 160 km&#47h, he said. </p> <br />
