Geelong Line station designs on show

Updated designs have been released for the upgrades to Marshall Station and the level crossing removal at Surf Coast Highway, as part of the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication in Victoria.

The South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication project will deliver more frequent and reliable services and better stations for passengers on Victoria’s busiest regional rail line. The project is part of the Australian and Victorian governments’ more than $1 billion investment in the staged upgrade of the Geelong Line.

Work to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing on the Surf Coast Highway will begin soon, to improve safety and traffic flow for the almost 30,000 vehicles that use the road each day.

Updated designs have been released showing the boom gates replaced by a rail bridge over the road – part of the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication Project.

The rail line will be moved south of its current location towards Baanip Boulevard, providing opportunities for new green open space and a new path for walking and cycling.

Passenger comfort and accessibility will also be improved at Marshall Station, with updated designs showing a rebuilt station with an enclosed waiting room for passengers.

The upgrades at Marshall Station include a new second platform, a rebuilt station building with an enclosed waiting room, an accessible pedestrian overpass and an architecturally designed canopy over the new entrance forecourt.

A new station entrance on Drews Road will connect with more than 200 new car parking spaces, giving growing communities south of Geelong more options to drive to the station and catch the train.

Locals can provide feedback on the updated designs.

Construction on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication is expected to be completed in late 2024.
