<p>The City of Greater Geelong will undertake a study into an intermodal freight terminal, the Victorian minister for regional and rural development, John Brumby, said on Friday (February 9).</p> <p>The study would seek to identify the role a terminal could play in enhancing rail freight in the domestic and export trade in the region.</p> <p>”The potential for an intermodal terminal capable of servicing the Geelong area, and potentially an area of 150 km radius to the north west of Geelong, has been on the regional agenda for about 10 years,” Mr Brumby said.</p> <p>“The study will look at ways of enhancing the competitiveness of the Victorian freight and logistics industry by supporting the sustainable development of intermodal facilities that add value to the supply chain and reduce freight costs to shippers.”</p> <p>The <em>Geelong Intermodal Freight Terminal Study</em> would include a detailed assessment of the impact of container traffic being rail shuttled between Geelong and the port of Melbourne, he said.</p> <p>The State Government will fund the $40,000 study.</p> <br />
