<p>FreightLink has clinched a contract for another 50,000 tonnes of freight on its newly opened Adelaide to Darwin rail service.</p> <p>It reached agreement with freight forwarder FCL, which also operate FreightLink’s terminals at Tennant Creek and Katherine.</p> <p>The contract follows a 120,000-tonne freight deal with the Scott Group and FreightLink said it is now "well on the way" to securing its initial target of 350,000 tonne of freight within the first 12 months of operation.</p> <p>FCL managing director Bill Gibbins said the railway opened new opportunities for agricultural development in the Northern Territory, which had been held back by the limitations of the refrigerated road industry.</p> <p>There was "huge potential" for transporting produce and refrigerated product out of the territory, especially Katherine, Mr Gibbins said.</p> <p>The first service on the Adelaide to Darwin railway completed its journey to Darwin on Saturday (January 17). </p> <br />
