FreightLink stands up to Toll critique

FreightLink has defended its freight services on the Adelaide-Darwin rail line as a cost competitive option against road.

It follows recent remarks from Toll Holdings managing director Paul Little that rail freight costs the same as running triple road trains on the corridor &#8211 but the road option arrives 12 days earlier.

Unless FreightLink could offer price advantages, freight forwarders like Toll would not be able to use the service in a significant way, Mr Little said.

FreightLink told the ABC it had converted 85% of freight forwarders along the corridor to rail.

Company chief executive John Fullerton said customers were happy with the frequency of the rail.

"We always review our freight rates continually to make sure we remain the lowest cost operator on that corridor," he said.

"We are currently working closely with Toll, both their divisions that operate on that corridor, to provide further incentives to them to convert more of their business to rail."
