Freight network strategy features in Auslink Adelaide draft

Freight network planning &#8211 including intermodal terminal developments &#8211 feature in the Auslink Adelaide urban corridor draft strategy.

As is likely with all the urban corridor drafts, how road and rail freight needs interact with broader urban transport demands is a focus of the Adelaide draft strategy put together by federal and state transport departments.

In the short term, the plan focuses on maintenance and upgrading of present roads and completing improvements already underway.

Port River Expressway, the Northern Expressway and Sir Donald Bradman Drive servicing the airport are key routes here.

On rail, rail gauge incompatibilities and resolving conflicts at the Torrens and Goodwood Junctions between freight and passenger trains are priorities.

Longer term, the state should &#8220integrate land use and transport planning and identify, protect and reserve current and future transport corridors and intermodal terminals&#8221, the draft strategy said.
