<p>A national inquiry into the operation of regional road and rail networks in handling freight will hear submissions in Toowoomba and Brisbane this week.</p> <p>The House of Representatives, Transport and Regional Services Committee is examining the level of access to ports, capacity of ports and role of intermodal freight hubs.</p> <p>The inquiry will on Thursday (April 6) hear from the Queensland Government, the port of Brisbane and BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance, which runs the Hay Point Services Coal Terminal. </p> <p>Committee chair Paul Neville said the inquiry would examine the efficiency of freight movement to and from Queensland’s ports.</p> <p>“The current resources boom has heightened the need for the more efficient use of our transport infrastructure and port operations,” Mr Neville said. </p> <p>More than 150 submissions have been received so far, with the findings due for release later this year. </p> <br />
