<p>Designers used the opinions of more than 120 train drivers to fine-tune the blueprint for a new fleet of metropolitan trains in Western Australia.</p> <p>The Western Australian Government wanted to ensure that the new three-car train that will operate between Clarkson and Mildurah is comfortable and ergonomically efficient.</p> <p>WA’s present fleet of metropolitan trains had required extensive modifications because of ergonomic problems.</p> <p>A full-scale model driver’s cabin was used to glean feedback from the drivers and the same model will later be converted into a simulator in the next stage of the design process.</p> <p>A joint venture of EDI Rail and Bombardier Transportation won a $437m contract to build and maintain the 31 three-car sets and construct a railcar depot at Nowergup.</p> <p>The first batch of the rail cars will be commissioned by September 2004, the government said. </p> <br />
