<p>The inaugural Ghan journey between Adelaide and Darwin will be the most significant rail event in Australia since 1970, Great Southern Railway CEO Stephen Bradford said.</p> <p>Mr Bradford told <em>Lloyd’s List DCN</em> there were only two other rail events of similar significance in the last 100 years – the 1970 single gauge journey of the India Pacific from Sydney to Perth and the 1917 crossing of the Nullarbor between Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie.</p> <p>Tickets for the inaugural journey between Adelaide and Darwin went on sale today (Monday, January 24) for the 12,000 members of the Ghan Top End Club.</p> <p>They have an exclusive opportunity to buy them until April 4, </p> <p>"There is a lot of international interest in this, Mr Bradford said.</p> <p>As yet there is no firm date for the trip but Mr Bradford expects it will take place early in January.</p> <p>Tickets for the general public will go on sale in early January. </p> <br />
