A fire underneath a railway bridge in Melbourne caused major delays across five train lines on Wednesday afternoon.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews were called to a building fire on Rosslyn Street in West Melbourne, underneath the Dudley Street railway bridge, shortly after 3pm.
Firefighters arrived in six minutes to find thick smoke and flames issuing from a 30 metre by 10 metre storage building.
At the site, they found equipment and other contents on fire but a search found no people inside.
While firefighters fought the fire, trains were stopped in both directions between Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations, one of the busiest rail corridors in the city.
This caused delays on the Upfield, Werribee, Sunbury, Williamstown and Craigieburn lines, as well as regional Victorian services.
FRV crews were able to bring the fire under control by 3.33pm.
The rail line was inspected for fire extension before services resumed, with delays on services easing to 10 minutes by about 5.30pm.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but is under investigation, with police treating it as suspicious.
