Fire-damaged Mooroopna station to be repaired ‘heritage-style’

The locals of Mooroopna and passengers on the Shepparton Line have made their voices heard on the future redevelopment of Mooroopna station, determining that the fire-damaged building ought to be repaired.

The station’s facilities were destroyed by a fire in January this year, forcing V/Line to install a temporary shelter at the station last month to continue servicing passengers.

Community consultations were conducted in early April in the form of meetings and a survey to determine what locals wanted to happen to the site.

Luke Donnellan, acting state public transport minister, confirmed that locals desired the station facilities to be repaired.

“Mooroopna Station has been serving the community for more than a hundred years, which is why we wanted to hear from local residents, groups and passengers about what should happen next,” Donnellan said.

A new shelter and additional lighting for the station will be constructed by September this year. MP for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said that the community had decided that the shelter would fitting for the heritage of the station and be ideal for all weather conditions.

“Following the feedback, work will now get underway on making these improvements a reality so locals can have a station facility they can use again,” Gepp said.

The shelter will reportedly be similar to the one at Broadford Station and other stations on the regional network.

Transport for Victoria and the City of Greater Shepparton will also be improving station access will better footpaths and connections to the town centre.
