The final stage of Victoria’s Shepparton Line Upgrade has now been completed.
During a 45 day construction blitz last December, crews worked about 22,000 hours to deliver additional stabling for VLocity trains, an extended passing loop, and a new signalling and train control system. These upgrades will allow more weekday V/Line services to run between Shepparton and Melbourne.
The new signalling system also maximises the benefits of almost 40 kilometres of track upgraded as part of the project, the Victorian Government said. It builds on earlier stages of the Shepparton Line Upgrade, which delivered improved stabling at Shepparton and an extra 10 train services each week.
The project has also delivered station upgrades at Mooroopna, Murchison East and Nagambie and improved train detection at 59 level crossings. New stabling also allows modern VLocity trains to operate on the line for the first time.
The Shepparton Line Upgrade forms part of the Victorian and Australian governments’ $4 billion Regional Rail Revival program, which encompasses upgrades for every regional passenger line in Victoria.
