Feasibility study for Thirroul rail tunnel

<p>The New South Wales Government has called for a feasibility study into a tunnel at Thirroul to improve rail times between Sydney and Wollongong.</p> <p>It is believed the construction of a tunnel could reduce journey times by up to 20 minutes.</p> <p>The study will look at a variety of issues, including geotechnical factors, freight rail, the environment and land use patterns, the state member for Kiera, David Campbell, said.</p> <p>"I have asked for this investigative work to be carried out to examine the major planning and engineering issues relating to the construction of a tunnel from Waterfall to Thirroul," Mr Campbell said.</p> <p>"The ultimate aim is to increase reliability on the line and ensure that journey times are significantly reduced for people travelling between Wollongong and Sydney."</p> <p>Tenders close on December 12. </p> <br />
