The 13th New Zealand Rail Conference is set to make waves in Auckland on October 16-17, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and key stakeholders for two days of transformative discussions and networking.
Hosted at the Aotea Centre, this year’s conference promises a compelling program featuring over 40 speakers, including five distinguished keynote presenters.
“Our goal was to ensure we have covered the most pertinent topics that the New Zealand rail industry is facing currently, weaving in insightful panel discussions and timely updates,” New Zealand Rail Conference program director Kate Twentyman said.
Day One Highlights
Day one commences with a triple header of keynote presentations from KiwiRail CEO, Peter Reidy, Mayor of Auckland, Wayne Brown, and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Chief Executive, Nicole Rosie. A platinum partner address from John Holland leads into the mid-morning networking break.
Following the break, the audience will dive into two engaging panel discussions. These panels will feature representatives from KiwiRail, New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, RISSB, Auckland One Rail, and Auckland Transport. A special address on navigating the rapid rise in reporting requirements from Dr Cathy Bebelman, Auckland Transport concludes the morning sessions, before a networking and lunch break.
The afternoon will split into concurrent innovation streams covering vital topics such as workforce and customer experience, sustainability, innovation and technology, rail freight, and safety, ensuring no stone remains unturned. The day will conclude with a networking drinks function, providing an opportunity for attendees to unwind and connect.
Day Two Highlights
The second day begins with a keynote presentation from Audrey Sonerson, Chief Executive of the Ministry of Transport. Stephen Brunell will offer an update on the City Rail Link (CRL), followed by a presentation from Siemens’ Mick Spiers on the future of rail infrastructure in New Zealand.
A mid-morning networking break will lead into a fireside chat featuring representatives from KiwiRail and Auckland Transport, focusing on building resilience in metro networks.
Post-lunch, a special panel discussion will address the critical issue of national investment in rail, with contributions from Metlink, KiwiRail, John Holland, Auckland One Rail, and the Helen Clark Foundation. RTSA NZ Chair Daniel Headifen will then explore the pursuit of technical excellence in the rail sector.
The conference will wrap up with the official New Zealand Rail Conference Dinner, featuring a Ministerial Address from the Hon. Simeon Brown and a special guest speaker. A highlight event that offers a fitting conclusion to two days of insightful content and valuable networking opportunities.
