End in sight for Tranz Rail heat-affected tracks

<p>Tranz Rail has reassured the Wellington Regional Council that work to remove heat restrictions from the area’s electrified network is on schedule.</p> <p>The company told the council that engineers had lifted 70% of heat restrictions, with entire network expected to return to normal operation by the end of February.</p> <p>Wellington’s passenger transport committee chairman, councillor Chris Turver, said commuters could now "breathe a sigh of relief".</p> <p>"Commuters’ patience has been pushed to the limit over the last couple of months by delays caused by heat restrictions," he said.</p> <p>The restrictions have forced services to operate at low speeds on heat-affected tracks, causing long delays to commuter services.</p> <br />
