Electrical contact damages NGR train, overhead wires

Buses replaced trains between Bowen Hills, South Brisbane and Corinda stations over the weekend, after a New Generation Rollingstock train and 1.2 kilometres of overhead equipment were damaged.

Queensland Rail said on Sunday it was working to repair infrastructure after “electrical contact” between an NGR train and overhead powerlines caused a shutdown.

The incident took place just before 8.30 on Saturday night. Buses replaced trains on parts of the inner-city network as a result, and services not directly impacted experienced moderate delays as they passed through the inner city area.

“Crews are working as quickly as possible to repair the damage,” Queensland Rail said on Sunday. “We apologise to our customers who have been impacted by this issue.”

Service was returned late on Sunday night.

Queensland Rail has not outlined the full extent of damage done to the NGR train, nor how long the train will be out of service due to the incident.
