Early designs have been unveiled for a new rail bridge in Macleod, which will replace the Ruthven Street level crossing.
The Victorian Government said this will ease congestion and improve safety in Melbourne’s north east.
The level crossing will be removed by 2027, with the new rail bridge expected to improve travel reliability for the 12,600 vehicles that pass through the site each day, cutting up to 30 minutes of boom gate delays during the morning peak.
As part of the project, a new walking and cycling path will be delivered along Ellesmere Parade between Ruthven Street and Davies Street, along with a signalised pedestrian crossing near the new bridge.
The designs have been shaped by community feedback, with a strong preference for natural colours, materials and architectural finishes that reflect the surrounding landscape.
Drawing inspiration from the nearby Rosanna Parklands, the bridge will feature earthy tones in its screening and overall colour palette.
A new landscaped community space beneath the bridge will also be created, incorporating native and indigenous plant species suited to local conditions to ensure long-term sustainability.
The community can view the designs and provide feedback via Engage Victoria, as well as register to attend an information session.
