Downer NZ boss leaves for Fulton Hogan

New Zealand-based infrastructure group Fulton Hogan has tapped rival firm Downer for its next group chief executive.

Downer New Zealand chief executive Cos Bruyn will move to Fulton Hogan after 13 years at the company. Downer said on January 16 he would relinquish all Downer management responsibilities immediately and be subject to a nine-month post-employment restraint period before joining Fulton Hogan.

Steve Killeen will assume the role of acting CEO of Downer NZ.

Killeen has worked at Downer for 12 years. He is currently the company’s group executive manager for strategy and development, and has worked for Downer in New Zealand in various executive general manager roles.

Downer recently won one of the first construction contracts for the City Rail Link project – an underground rail line linking Britomart station and the Auckland city centre with the existing western line near Mount Eden.

Fulton Hogan’s existing chief executive, Nick Miller, indicated his plans to leave his role in May 2016. Miller is scheduled to depart in March this year, while Fulton Hogan said it looked forward to bringing Bruyn on board in the second half of 2017.

“Mr Bruyn’s appointment follows a thorough local and international executive search process,” the company said in a statement. “He has extensive experience in the contracting industry.”

Downer boss Grant Fenn thanked Bruyn for his extensive contribution to the business.
