<p>The lack of intermodal facilities in Sydney is a national impediment, a senior Federal Government official told the Ausintermodal Conference this morning (Wednesday, October 27).</p> <p>Jim Wolfe, assistant secretary for strategic transport policy with the Department of Transport and Regional Services, said the Federal Government had identified Department of Defence land at Moorebank in southwest Sydney, which could be considered as part of a national intermodal plan.</p> <p>Mr Wolfe told the conference in Melbourne there would need to be a joint effort between governments and industry to develop intermodal planning.</p> <p>There is a degree of "proliferation of investment" that does not consider the national network, he said.</p> <p>The Federal Government plans to launch a major study to research "intermodal facilities of national importance" to link into a national network.</p> <p>Addressing his state colleagues, Mr Wolfe said there would always be differences but he was encouraged by the amount of national common ground.</p> <br />
