PICS: Queensland transport and main roads minister Mark Bailey has unveiled designs for a major overhaul at Auchenflower station in Brisbane.
The multimillion-dollar upgrade at Auchenflower will include a new pedestrian footbridge with lift access and a raised section of platform to incorporate an assisted boarding point.
Further accessibility measures include an upgraded hearing augmentation loop and tactile platform surfaces.
The designs also include upgraded security cameras and lighting, and new wayfinding and platform signage.
“Auchenflower is an important station for the local community, with key connections to the Wesley Hospital and local sporting facilities,” Minister Bailey said. “Last year, Auchenflower accommodated more than 870,000 passenger trips, however the station is not currently independently accessible for everyone in the community.”
The upgrade is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $300 million transport accessibility program.
“The upgrade will ensure all customers seeking to catch services to and from Auchenflower will have a seamless and independently accessible path of travel throughout the station precinct and equal access to employment, important services and connections to family and friends,” Bailey continued.
“The project will also support more than 250 jobs for contractors and suppliers from the construction industry, including electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, labouring, roofing, glazing and traffic control, which is great news for the local economy.”
Bailey also said Taringa station, further down the Main line, was also under consideration for accessibility upgrades, noting it had accessible stations on either side of it at Toowong and Indooroopilly.
