Department of Environment seeks greenhouse links with shipowners

<p>The federal Department of Environment’s Australian Greenhouse Office is seeking ways to engage with the country’s shipowners in the Greenhouse Challenge Plus scheme to reduce environmentally harmful emissions.</p> <p>Greenhouse Challenge Plus senior industry advisor John Wyett told <em>Lloyd’s List DCN</em> last night (Thursday, October 26) his section was trying to gain links with shipowners with domestic vessels and those visiting but struggling to find the right approach.</p> <p>Mr Wyett’s office oversaw the first Greenhouse Challenge, established in 1995 and aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions accelerating the uptake of energy efficiency integrating greenhouse issues into business decision-making and providing more consistent reporting of greenhouse gas emissions levels.</p> <p>On July 1, the government required that a business must be a member of Greenhouse Challenge Plus if it was to claim fuel tax credits in excess of $3m. </p> <p>Rail companies are heavily involved in the scheme.</p> <br />
