<p>The Victorian Government has hit Connex with a record $2.4m fine for cancelled and delayed trains, according to Melbourne’s <em>Age</em> .</p> <p>The fine was for the three months to June and was more than four times the previous quarter, the paper said.</p> <p>The Sandringham line had 499 cancellations during the quarter and the Frankston line recorded 455 cancellations.</p> <p>It reflects the continued shortage of drivers and trains, the government said.</p> <p>Connex said it hads 50 new drivers in training.</p> <p>The company took over Melbourne’s entire passenger rail in April in the wake of National Express’s sudden departure in December 2002.</p> <br />
