Darwin rail passenger terminal will be ready: NT Govt

The Northern Territory Government has bristled at media suggestions that Darwin’s East Arm rail passenger terminal will not be ready for next week’s inaugural Ghan service from Adelaide to Darwin.

A spokesman for chief minister Clare Martin dismissed the report as "the biggest beat-up" and insisted the station would be ready on time.

The spokesman said there is still some minor work &#8211 including finishing touches to indigenous artwork, and connecting power and temporary phone services to the station &#8211 to do before Tuesday (February 3), when the train is due to arrive in Darwin.

"Everything will be ready on time," the spokesman said.

The passenger train comes hot on the heels of the newly completed rail link’s first freight train, which arrived in Darwin on January 17.
