Darwin rail link’s Moretti wins ARA award

<p>Franco Moretti has won the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) individual award for excellence for his work on the Alice Springs-Darwin railway project.</p> <p>Mr Moretti took out the award at last week’s AusRail conference in Sydney, with the corporate award for excellence going to Freight Australia for developing and implementing its safety awareness program, Just a Tick.</p> <p>As bid director for the Asia Pacific Transport Consortium, Mr Moretti managed relationships with the consortium partners and led the team for four years from the pre-qualification stage to the signing of agreements in April 2001.</p> <p>ARA executive director John Kirk said: "Mr Moretti’s award recognises his outstanding efforts towards ensuring that the century old dream of a north-south transcontiental railway is finally being fulfilled."</p> <p>The ARA said Freight Australia’s Just a Tick was successful because it gave company employees a sense of ownership in the program. </p> <p>It has saved the company $1m over the last year through reduced workplace absences and has reduced the company’s insurance premium for employee injuries.</p> <br />
