Construction of the new metro station at Crows Nest in Sydney is reaching the home stretch, with locals one step closer to receiving their brand-new transport link.
Commuters will have easy access with two entrances, on Clarke Street and Pacific Highway, as well as nine escalators and five lifts throughout the fully accessible station, which have been installed and commissioned for operations.
Paving and fit-out of the platform is complete and the concourse is nearing completion, with all opal gates now installed.
Above ground, the community is seeing the station take shape as the brick exterior façade and awnings are installed into place. Public domain works including upgrades to surrounding roads and footpaths, landscaping and tree planting, and the installation of street lighting and furniture is ongoing.
When complete, locals will also benefit from new pedestrian crossings on Clarke and Hume streets and Pacific Highway; new bike parking along Hume Street, Clarke Street and Clarke Lane footpaths; as well as new kiss and ride and taxi bays right next to the station.
To date, more than 5300 people have worked over 1,148,000 hours to build the new station, as part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project.
When metro services start this year, this key part of the city’s north will be unlocked with fast travel times from Crows Nest under the Harbour to Barangaroo in five minutes and to Martin Place in just seven minutes.
