Councils want charcoal on rail

<p>Fourteen New South Wales councils have called on the State Government to reconsider plans to transport charcoal from a proposed south coast manufacturing plant by road.</p> <p>A committee representing the councils wants the government to agree to using rail to move the charcoal from the site at Mogo near Bateman’s Bay.</p> <p>It argued that the charcoal could be trucked 136 km to Bomaderry and then transported by rail to the Lithgow silicon smelter.</p> <p>The groups are concerned about the number of heavy vehicles on local roads if this plan is rejected.</p> <br />
