Community consultation is now open on new and amended bus routes to support the new METRONET Byford Station in Western Australia.
The changes will include improvements in general frequency and operating hours, with 10 additional buses servicing an additional 445,000 kilometres a year.
Community feedback is being sought on the proposed bus network, which will include seven new and modified bus routes operating at the new Byford Station, a new bus route to service new residential growth areas in Hilbert and integrated bus services connecting to trains at Byford Station.
The proposed network also includes improvements to existing peak, off-peak and weekend frequencies with an increased span of operating hours in Byford, Whitby and Mundijong.
Final routes, as well as timetables for train services and the supporting bus network for surrounding suburbs, will be made available before passenger services start on the remainder of the Armadale Line, due to open later this year.
The Byford Rail Extension will deliver a brand-new Byford Station in the existing rail corridor 400 metres north of Abernethy Road, linking the old and new town centre with pedestrian-friendly east-west connections.
Works will include rebuilding Armadale Station as a new elevated station, the removal of level crossings at Armadale Road, Forrest Road, and Church Avenue, and provide around eight kilometres of continuous shared path for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project has been jointly funded by the State and Commonwealth governments.
The community can provide feedback until June 16, 2025.
Rita Saffioti, Transport Minister said the new train station in Byford will be a game changer for the community.
“The enhanced bus network will be critical to connecting people to our world-class rail network,” she said.
“Not only will the changes support connectivity to the new station, but they will also see new services in growing suburbs for the first time.
“It is important the community take their time to review and provide their feedback on these changes to ensure the bus network best aligns with community needs.”
