The design and pre-construction contract for the main works package on the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project has been awarded to MIC Group’s CPB Contractors and UGL, as part of the ActivUs Alliance.

CPB Contractors and UGL, alongside ACCIONA, SMEC and WSP, will work in partnership with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail to progress design and project planning activities.

Delivery of the LGC project will provide more frequent public transport services to address the high travel demand between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The Alliance will now begin the design process and project planning activities and undertake further site investigations to ensure the infrastructure is completed ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Works include an upgrade from two to four rail tracks from Kuraby to Beenleigh, including all civil works and civil structures; accessible station upgrades including park ‘n’ ride, kiss ’n’ ride and bus stop upgrades; removal of level crossings, and upgraded rail systems and conventional signalling and enabling works for a European Train Control System.

The local road network will also be modified, with improved walking and cycling connections along the 20-kilometre project corridor.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaría said its team will safely and reliably deliver this next-generation rail line.

“The project will increase public transport capacity, improve accessibility, and deliver a more seamless, comfortable commute.”

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said: “CPB Contractors’ highly skilled local team will draw on our decades of experience delivering complex and city-shaping infrastructure, as well as our local partnerships, to build this game-changing infrastructure and support Queensland’s growing population and thriving tourism industry.”

UGL Managing Director Doug Moss said: “UGL is a leader in the Australian transport sector with proven capabilities in large infrastructure construction, including complex mechanical and electrical installations on some of Australia’s largest transport systems.

“We look forward to working alongside our Alliance partners to deliver increased capacity for local residents and visitors to South-East Queensland, which will support population growth in the area and help the region to prepare for the historic Brisbane Olympics in 2032.”
