Construction firms shortlisted for NSW Inland Rail modifications

The Australian Rail Track Corporation has shortlisted three construction firms to deliver the design and construct contract for the Albury to Illabo and Stockinbingal to Parkes (Albury to Parkes) enhancement projects in southern New South Wales.

Modifications are needed to provide sufficient height and width to support the safe running of double-stacked freight trains.

The Albury to Illabo section of Inland Rail includes about 185 kilometres of existing rail corridor from the Victoria-NSW border to Illabo in regional NSW.

Works will include enhancements to:

  • rail tracks
  • footbridges and road bridges

  • signal structures
  • level crossings

The Stockinbingal to Parkes section of Inland Rail will make enhancements or modifications to specific sites along the existing 170.3km of rail corridor in regional NSW.

Some of the works planned include:

  • increasing vertical clearance on the Lachlan River rail bridge in Forbes
  • increasing vertical clearance under the Wyndham Avenue road bridge in Forbes
  • building a new crossing loop north of the Daroobalgie Road level crossing

Other clearance and safety works include modifying Forbes Railway Station and several existing crossing loops, structures and utilities along the line.

The shortlisted proponents include:

  • John Holland Pty Ltd
  • Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction Pty Ltd and Partners (FreightConnect)
  • Martinus Rail Pty Ltd
