A three-week construction blitz will begin in Truganina, Victoria later this month, delivering the final works for the new Hopkins Road bridge over the rail line.
Hopkins Road will be closed between Grand Boulevard and Meskos Road from 9pm on Tuesday April 28 to 1am on Monday May 18, as crews work around the clock to connect the new bridge to the existing road and complete asphalting and line marking.
Detours will be in place via Leakes, Troups, Dohertys and Robinsons roads.
Crews have already laid more than 5000 tonnes of asphalt, painted the bridge façade and railings a vibrant purple, and built a new pedestrian and cycling path.
More than 80,000 native plants, trees and shrubs will be planted around the bridge once the project is complete.
The Hopkins Road level crossing will be permanently removed, with the new bridge opening to traffic on Monday May 18, improving safety and reducing congestion in the area.
Works are also underway to remove three more level crossings at nearby Ferris, Coburns and Exford roads in Melton, alongside construction of a new Melton Station, set to open to passengers later in 2026.
