Claremont station upgrade tender released

A tender has been released by the Western Australian government for engineering and design services for upgrades to Claremont Station in Perth.

Upgrades at Claremont will include the development of two additional turnbacks, platform extensions and track realignment works.

The track works will enable trains coming from the new Forrestfield-Airport Link to turn around west of Claremont Station, and provide a direct link to direct link through to the Forrestfield-Airport Link from the Fremantle Line.

“This is an exciting project that will benefit passengers on the Midland and Fremantle train lines, including the students attending the new Inner City College and the future developments around the Subiaco Oval site,” state transport minister Rita Saffioti said.

“It will ensure the best movement of trains once the Forrestfield-Airport Link is complete and provide an additional place for drivers to turn trains outside the CBD without having to reach the end of the line.”

Once the upgrades are complete at Claremont and elsewhere along the line, according to the government, passengers will be able to catch trains between Claremont and Bayswater every five minutes during peak periods.

The platform extension will enable Claremont to accommodate six-car trains, and other upgrades are to improve the station’s accessibility for those with mobility issues.

The funding for the station and track upgrades are reportedly provided for in the existing Forrestfield-Airport Link funds presented in the 2016-17 State Budget.

LandCorp, the WA government’s land development agency, has also been working towards encouraging residential and commercial development in areas around the Claremont station precinct.

“This is another recognition that Claremont is becoming a growing centre, with several developments close to public transport springing up right around the station precinct,” Saffioti said.

“The Claremont Station upgrade will allow the station to accommodate six-car trains and will help passengers with mobility issues to better access public transport.”

The Claremont station works are expected to be complete by late 2020.
