<p>The Civic Nexus consortium has been chosen as the Victorian Government’s private sector partner in a $700m redevelopment of the Spencer Street Station precinct.</p> <p>Civic Nexus comprises ABN Amro, Leighton Contractors, Australian architect Daryl Jackson and UK-based architect Nicholas Grimshaw.</p> <p>The centrepiece of the project will be a new $350m railway station, to be renamed Southern Cross Station.</p> <p>Civic Nexus will construct the new station, including associated track and signalling works, and will maintain and operate the interchange for the next 30 years.</p> <p>The government will pay the consortium $300m through regular payments over the three decades.</p> <p>Construction will begin by September 2002 and be completed by mid 2005.</p> <br />
