VIDEO: Daytime testing of Canberra’s new light rail vehicles has been stepped up, with T traffic lights making their debut in the nation’s capital.
Daytime testing of the new Canberra Metro LRVs is currently focused between Gungahlin Place and Nullarbor Avenue, but in coming weeks it will expand to include the track between Mitchell and Gungahlin Place.
New T traffic lights are being used to regulate movement along Flemington Road intersections with Hinder Street, Kate Crace Street and Manning Clark Crescent.
“T traffic lights are for light rail vehicles only,” Canberra Metro says.
“If you see a red ‘T’ you don’t have to stop, this is instructing the LRV to stop. A white ‘T’ is instructing the LRV to go. If you see a white ‘T’ don’t try to cross the intersection, wait for the green arrow.”
Testing is taking place on a 24-hour cycle, in three shifts from 5am to 1pm, 1pm to 9pm, and 9pm to 5pm. A minimum of two LRVs will be on the tracks during the daytime.
