<p>The Sydney Port Corporation (SPC) wants separate governance councils to manage road and rail operations at Port Botany, it told the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of New South Wales.</p> <p>Many at Port Botany believed the port would operate more efficiently if changes were made to practices at the road and rail interface, the corporation told the inquiry into the interface between land transport industries and the stevedores at Port Botany. </p> <p>“The container logistics industries hold concerns that they lack authority in order to be able to influence any decision made by the stevedores,” it said in a submission.</p> <p>“The environment has generated Sydney Ports to put forward the proposal to create separate governance councils to manage road and rail operations at Port Botany.</p> <p>“The governance councils should be granted effective powers to generate change for the benefit of the whole transport chain, and therefore eventually the citizens of Sydney and NSW.”</p> <p>Sydney’s ports have averaged over 7% growth in containerised trade over 30 years. </p> <p>In the first 10 months of 2006ባ, containerised trade has increased by 13% over the same months last financial year, putting pressure on the transport chain to perform to optimum levels.</p> <p>Sydney Ports is conservatively projecting between 5-6% growth per annum through Port Botany over the next 20 years.</p> <br />
