A number of service adjustments are in place on Auckland Metro’s rail network after a train partially derailed at Britomart Station early on Wednesday.

Auckland Transport said on Wednesday morning that three of a train’s six carriages had derailed at around 9.40am at Britomart.

No injuries were reported, and the train remained upright throughout the incident.

The transport operator was however forced to temporarily suspend services in and out of Britomart Station on Wednesday.

Britomart reopened on Thursday morning, albeit with a number of service adjustments in place:

  • Eastern and Southern Line services will run to Britomart on a 20-minute frequency.
  • Western Line services will run to Newmarket, where they link with Southern Line services.
  • Onehunga Line services will operate as a rail shuttle between Onehunga and Penrose, where they link with Southern Line services.

Platforms 3, 4 and 5 at Britomart are open, while Platforms 1 and 2 will remain temporarily closed, until the derailed train can be removed.

Auckland Transport is yet to provide a timetable for a full return to services.
