Bring Gold Coast track into NSW, says rail lobby

Rail lobby groups are calling for an extension of Queensland’s Gold Coast railway into the New South Wales north coast &#8211 as far as Lismore and Byron Bay.

The group, Northern Rivers Trains for the Future, believes a suggestion to extend the rail to Murwillumbah should be taken even further.

It believed the gauge compatibility issue could be overcome by laying a third rail, the ABC reported.

This "technical hitch" was small compared with the issue of getting governments to secure corridors and understand that rail was the future, the group said.
