Big names lined up for value capture forum

Federal minister for urban infrastructure Paul Fletcher and Infrastructure Australia chief executive Philip Davies are among those set to discuss the latest events and trends surrounding value capture in infrastructure.

Fletcher, Davies, and a clutch of other high profile speakers will address the 2017 Value Capture in Infrastructure conference in Sydney on March 15.

Fletcher will kick off proceedings with his ministerial address, in which he will clarify the role the Commonwealth has in facilitating value capture in infrastructure delivery.

IA boss Philip Davies will then outline how a realistic role can be established for value capture in the infrastructure funding mix.

The conference will also include a states’ perspective panel discussion, and another panel session covering the creation of a clear policy framework for value capture.

“The momentum toward incorporating a ‘beneficiary pays’ or value capture funding mechanism in relation to the development of infrastructure projects continues to grow in Australia,” a representative from conference organiser Informa Australia said.

“With governments confronted by fiscal limitations in an environment where the need for public infrastructure underpins the economic prosperity of the country, value capture prevents an innovative alternative in the infrastructure funding equation.”
