The Registration of Experience process has officially opened for the next contract to run Melbourne’s metropolitan train network.
Interested parties can submit their information via the Buying for Victoria website.
Starting in late 2027, the next MR5 train franchisee will operate and maintain the city’s rail network, delivering over 2000 daily services across more than 1000 kilometres of track.
They’ll be responsible for seven train maintenance depots, more than 220 stations, nearly 7000 employees, and an evolving fleet.
The Victorian Government said it is looking for a “world class” operator to raise the bar and deliver better outcomes for customers.
“We are calling on the most experienced transport operators from around the world to bid for the next contract to run Melbourne’s train network,” they said.
“They will deliver more reliable services, better customer experience, improved accessibility and more real-time data, as well as the flexibility to innovate and adapt for the future.
“All this comes with the purposes of serving the needs of our dynamic, vibrant and growing communities.”
It said the competitive tender process will ensure the right operator is chosen to deliver the best outcome for Victorians.
