Bidders named for major crossing removal deal

Two bidders have been shortlisted for the contract to remove as many as eight level crossings from the Frankston line.

A consortium of CPB Contractors and Aurecon, will compete with a consortium of Lendlease, Acciona, Coleman Rail, and WSP, for the package of works.

The initial contract will cover a station rebuild and four level crossing removals in Carrum and Seaford. The successful tenderer will then be given the opportunity to deliver the remaining four level crossing removals and station rebuilds at Cheltenham, Mentone, Edithvale, and Bonbeach.

The initial package of works includes:

  • the removal of the Seaford Road level crossing in Seaford
  • the removal of the Mascot Road, Station Street, and Eel Race Road level crossings in Carrum
  • building a new station at Carrum
  • relocating the Carrum train storage facility to a purpose-built facility near Kananook station
  • building a new road-bridge over Patterson River connecting Station Street
  • rail systems and power upgrades

The first package is also designed to revitalise Carrum, with improved access to the beach, a village square built around a rebuilt Carrum Station, significant new landscaping, and open space.

A contract winner is expected to be announced in December this year.

The Frankston line crossings will be removed in stages to help reduce disruptions for the local community, Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Authority said.

Works at Seaford Road and the Station Street bridge are due start in 2018.
