<p>It has taken a month, but BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto have made up for lost time in unleashing trenchant criticism of the National Competition Commission’s (NCC) draft rail access recommendations for the Pilbara.</p> <p>"The NCC has failed to properly consider or take into account the information and other matters contained in BHP’s submissions to the NCC … and has made a number of errors of fact, law and reason," BHP Billiton Iron Ore said in its 33-page submission posted on its part of the BHP website:</p> <p>The company said opening up the rail lines would be against the national interest and compromise competitiveness, efficiency and growth of Australia’s iron ore export industry.</p> <p>Rio said: "The only conclusion which can be drawn is that the NCC is predisposed towards recommending access, and has predetermined its position on recommendation without any due regard to the submissions opposing access."</p> <br />
