A level crossing in Bendigo East has been upgraded, receiving boom gates, flashing lights, bells and axle counters, to improve safety for motorists and train passengers.
The Powell Street crossing is the latest of 33 road level crossings that have been upgraded under the Victorian government’s $50 million Safer Country Crossings Program, with another 19 slated for this year.
“This level crossing upgrade will significantly improve safety for motorists, passengers and the community,” state transport minister Jacinta Allan said.
“The Powell Street level crossing also provides an important link to the industrial estate, airport and residential areas in Bendigo East.”
As part of the program, 15 pedestrian crossings have also been upgraded; work is planned for a further 10 such crossings.
