Bathurst Council aims to attract industry through terminal

<p>Bathurst City Council has called for expressions of interest to build, own and operate an intermodal terminal on the city’s southeastern outskirts.</p> <p>The council owns a 13-ha block of land in the Kelso industrial precinct on the Great Western line, the main rail line connecting Bathurst to Sydney. </p> <p>The site has two existing rail spurs and storage facilities, and the council now wants to turn it into a major New South Wales freight hub.</p> <p>Planning and development director David Shaw said the council wants to lower freight costs to attract more industry to the region.</p> <p>He anticipates interest from trucking companies and private rail operators to build, own and operate the terminal.</p> <p>Mr Shaw said the council wants to retain some equity in the site.</p> <p>Interested parties have until April 11 to lodge their submissions.</p> <br />
