<p>The bridge linking Barnes Road Altona North to Grieve Parade and the Westgate Freeway opened for use on Friday (November 26), finally freeing up truck access to the CRT Group’s inland port.</p> <p>The $4.5m Barnes Road Bridge is part of the Victorian Government’s attempt to reduce the amount of truck traffic in residential areas of Altona. </p> <p>The project’s aim was to provide a better link to Barnes Road from arterial roads, resulting in a more environmentally friendly local neighbourhood.</p> <p>The road link will give the freight industry direct access to CRT Group’s inland port and port shuttle rail service. </p> <p>Since introducing a rail service into the port of Melbourne last year, CRT Group has moved over 12,000 containers to and from the wharf, leading to a significant reduction in the number of trucks that would have otherwise entered the port precinct. </p> <br />
