AusRAIL PLUS: Frequentis on a MissionX to success

Mehmet Asku

Transport information systems specialist Frequentis returned to the AusRAIL floor for a second year, displaying its safety-critical communication solutions backed by more than 75 years of experience in the market.

The company’s head of sales for public transport in Australia, Mehmet Aksu, said the conference provided a solid opportunity to talk to the industry and customers, while showcasing the products and exchanging ideas and information.

“This is the first year we have experienced such a huge amount of visitors. The previous event was right after COVID and people were still afraid of coming to the shows. WA was closed and we had flooding in Queensland,” he said.

Taking centre stage at the AusRAIL booth was the Frequentis MissionX solution, aimed at helping the digitalisation of railway communication as it transitions to the FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System).

“It’s the new standard. So we are working on our interworking functionalities to allow end customers to move into the new 5G world,” Aksu said.

MissionX is an integrated end-to-end solution, which reliably ensures mission-critical multimedia communication over public, dedicated (private) and hybrid standardised 4G/5G mobile networks, satellite, or WiFi provided by various network operators.

“This means more than just voice can be transmitted because it also supports data and video, meaning that communication about railway events or issues can be more detailed, enhancing the ability for resolution.

“As a bridging platform, MissionX includes the interworking and usage of legacy communication networks like GSM-R and TETRA. As a bridging technology, it is available for pre-FRMCS as well as for fully compliant FRMCS solutions.”

Aksu said the company was already receiving much interest from various rail industry operators.
